Do you supply NZ Wide?
+Yes, we certainly do! We have buildings all over NZ and a network of building partners we work with.
I am a builder, can I install your structures?
+Yes certainly! We work with a lot of builders around NZ to provide a turnkey design and install packages for their clients - contact our team for more info on this.
What size buildings to you typically do?
+The XL system is set up for buildings that are over 500m² - and most of our projects are between 1,500m² and 6,000m²
What does an XL building cost per m²?
+It depends on many factors some of which are the height, steel spec, site location, ground conditions, fire requirements, office design, etc. Our team are best to give an estimate once they know details about your project - as this gives a much more accurate and useful number.
Why do you use structural steel?
+Good question! We believe that in industrial and commercial buildings structural steel provides the best long term return on investment. Structural steel requires minimum maintenance, is durable and commands a higher resale value than lightweight structures. Contact the team for more information on how we can maximise your returns!
I am in a high corrosion environment. Do you have ways to prevent rust?
+We can offer Hot-Dip galvanising or Hot-Zinc arc spray for corrosive environments. Both come with excellent warranties and we would recommend you contact our team to discuss what is best for your situation.
Can my team install your kitset structures?
+Yes certainly, a lot of our clients in the rural sector install their own structures. The design comes with comprehensive 3D CAD models and all parts are numbered. It is literally like an adult lego set! If you have offices to build you may need to get a local builder to help you - but the XL team can guide you through this.
Are your structures fast to build?
+Yes, designing structures that are fast to install is very important to us. Our management and design staff have all had practical onsite experience so they have a first-hand understanding of what sort of things make life easy onsite. We also create full 3D models of our structures, which allows any structural clashes to be resolved before manufacture. All structural members come numbered to match a full 3D set-out plan - so it is clear where each part goes.
How far can your designs span?
+With structural steel, anything is really possible. We have designs that can clearspan 50m+ but generally, the span is determined by our clients budget and requirements.
Do I need to get my own Architect?
+No, the XL team have their own designers who can look after drawings for all the plans and details.
Can you create bird and vermin proof buildings?
+Yes, birdproofing is an area we specialise in and can offer the XL system with boxed in purlins giving you a clean, smart roofspace.
In the past, I feel that other engineers/architects I have worked with have overcomplicated and over-engineered buildings. Is there a way to stop this happening?
+When designing structures our philosophy is that simplicity and common sense is the key. Because we pair our design and engineering team, with a team that has practical experience and also an understanding of the cost drivers, the XL designs are efficient in terms of steel use - and also in other areas like footings and site works.
Do you look after the building consent?
+We certainly do, and we have an in house consents team that are experienced at lodging consents all over NZ.
Will I need fire walls in my building?
+Buildings on commercially zoned land often need some sort of firewalls. A lot of factors influence what is required so we recommend you talk to our team and they will be able to work out what your site may or may not need.
Will I need a Geotech report?
+It depends on your land, the council and also the type of building you are looking to construct. In general, larger industrial projects will all need a Geotech report - but you are best to chat with our team and they will be able to give an answer.
Will I need a resouce consent?
+This comes down to your intended use of the property, and what your land is zoned as. If your intended use is outside what is allowed in the zoning you will typically get a resource consent. If you think you may, have a chat with the team and we will be able to do some research and find out for you.
