Potato Processing and Storage Building
The lower wall is clad in timber battens, with gaps to provide aeration and rain protection for produce. As it is located in a field and the doors are open for long periods, the shed also features a bird-proof design. The 7m shed height allows maximum height for stacking storage bins while front and rear roller doors allow the ease of movement for forklifts and trucks.
Hira Bhana & Co currently crop over 1500 acres producing potatoes, onions, carrots, lettuce, cabbages, and more. The client wanted durable and bird-proof timber purlins for his operation, reducing the risk of rust that is associated with the higher moisture levels of onions.
With the need for a long-term operation, the client wanted to build a durable new facility with timber purlins. Whilst our structural steel shed design provided a straightforward solution, there were delays in the consenting process due to falling in the December timeframe.
XL Structural worked with the team at Hira Bhana & Co to design a structural steel building with timber purlins. From a long-term point of view, this provides far more durability than roll-formed steel.
The shed design also supports the client's specific operational requirements. It provides sufficient space for machinery to move around and allows the client to manage high moisture levels from stored produce.
