This workshop is designed for the storage and maintenance of forestry trucks and equipment. There is a double-level office block on one end, a wash bay on the other end, and doors along the side for easy access for trucks and large machinery to enter through.

This project is for a family-owned logging company near Rotorua. They have their own trucks and forestry equipment and do a lot of their own maintenance to reduce cost and downtime.

/ The Challenge

In reviewing the overhead costs, the owners saw that the cost to lease a workshop for maintenance was considerable, and concluded that it would be much more effective to have their own facility, as the 'rent' payments would quickly pay off the building, and provide them with an asset for the future generations.

Requirements

Easy access into the building for trucks.

Washdown bay on one end.

Offices on the other end that could be accessed easily from outside.

Parts storage area under the offices to make the best use of space.

/ The Solution

The owners were looking to build a quality building that would be there for the long term, but it was important to save money without losing quality or creating a false economy.

As the owners had good contacts in the construction industry and a good relationship with a local builder, it made sense to construct a kitset building that they could then organise to be constructed locally.

XL Structural was able to provide a kitset build along with the full design package. This design package included the design of the building structure, architectural plans for the office space, wash-down bay design, and working with the council to get the building consent.
