/ About

Waimea Group provides a single source of supply to the utility industry for vehicle-mounted specialist equipment (such as bucket trucks, line crane trucks, and hydro excavation trucks).

Gibbons Holdings Ltd is an established Nelson developer that owns a large number of properties with close to 150 tenants. Waimea Group is one of their tenants.

/ The Challenge

Waimea Group was in need of more workshop space to increase manufacturing and assembly capacity. They had a lot of stock in storage with a 3PL company and were wanting to bring this in-house to create efficiencies.

XL worked with Waimea Group (the tenant) and Gibbons Holdings Ltd (the landlord) to confirm the project requirements and offer design recommendations.

Requirements

A workshop structure that was designed to suit a twin lift six-tonne gantry crane.

Design warehouse area to maximise the pallet storage per cubic meter of building space.

Comprehensive structural design and supply package.

Provide certainty of timeframe and pricing for the main building structure.

/ The Solution

The solution was an 18 x 38m workshop with a twin lift gantry crane for the assembly and installation of specialist equipment, along with steel rails set into the fibre-reinforced floor.

Connected with the workshop, we built a warehouse distribution centre for machinery parts and stock. The building design was integrated with racking plans to maximise the storage space within the building. It also included a canopy loading bay for loading trucks under a covered area, along with the ability to extend the building in the future.

XL was also able to offer the developer a comprehensive structural design and timeframe certainty for the structural steel components of the project.

Key Benefits

  • The building was designed to suit the twin lift gantry, creating the ability to rotate and lift material and equipment as they fabricate and assemble the vehicle-mounted equipment, saving production time.

  • The warehouse distribution area was designed to create maximum storage within the space so they could bring stock in-house.
